I get the movie. I get the purpose. But for me, who has no gaping holes in my higher thoughts, this was unfulfilling.

Got it on bluray the first day, a great and memorable yet sometimes weird movie. Plenty of heart-warming scenes.

Still don’t quite get the point of the third act, but it’s a thought-provoking, dark, and yet somehow funny movie to watch.

Everything. Made no sensr

Wes Anderson relying on his visual artistry so that he can neglect a coherent storyline. If you go to this movie, just go to look at the nice cinematography and don't think so hard about the plot, otherwise, you will be confused or not enjoy it.

A superb meditation on grief. Not a movie for people who struggle with attention span, who hate when things are "slow".

stupid and boring movie, laughed once i think... fell asleep

User review rating: 5 July 09, 2023

Stylistically beautiful - colors to die for. Tongue in cheek, a panoply of actors like no other. I mean really cinema at its best. TY Wes Anderson

I found this movie to be like a philosophy class. You either open your mind to something new, not measurable or significant; but an opportunity to let the story tell itself and then stop! It makes you think, And that's what the movie is all about. Many scoffed at the musical a few years back set in Los Angeles about a musician and a romance that wouldn't be. The movie swept the Oscars due to its original and uncommon telling of a story through song. Not everyone will like this movie; but it is an opportunity to learn something about life and ourselves if you think about it. You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep. If you fall asleep during the film, maybe it is just not your type entertainment. No foul. Everyone enjoys their own form of entertainment. I have seen the film three times and each time take something new away from it because it is very subliminal as to its message. I think this "Sleeper" will get better reviews in the future, just like Sordid Lives did after its initial run.

I liked the fake scenery and surreal atmosphere

User review rating: 1 July 08, 2023

The movie tries to have artsy talk that bordered on boring. Great names starred in this movie but if you don’t like watching a fake looking movie set with cute phrases that get old fast, stay home. Both my friend and I walked out half way through and the first half was truly tedious.

Boring movie, I kept waiting for it to get better, but it didn’t even seem to have a plot.

Someone should tell Anderson that weird doesn't necessarily make a movie funny or enjoyable. Dude, have someone tell you the truth before you pass go

Typical actors need paychecks movie. One funny moment when alien returns asteroid on asteroid city

User review rating: 5 July 04, 2023

This is a Wes Anderson movie and like all his films it is visually rich and aggressively quirky. If that’s your thing see this movie. If that gets on your nerves, don’t.

Cute but no plot

User review rating: 1 July 04, 2023

This film was stunningly beautiful visually and very reminiscent of Dogville with the plot being a being a play and the town being a set. I thought the storyline had an especially deep undercurrent once you looked past the typical Wes Anderson subplots, which I felt all joined up in the end, albeit in a very conceptual manner. I think the truth of the message of this film came out when Jason Schwartzman went backstage to speak to the director, played by Adrien Brody, who still had not conceived an ending for his play. Schwartzman expressed concerns feeling lost with the direction of his character… To me it felt like how we all feel as humans at times, asking someone, or something (ie God, what have you) to tell us what the point is and where we should go or what we should do. Brody’s response was perfection and lent meaning to all the other subplots and characters in the story.

Call it what it is, artisanal. Our theater was full of laughter. In a good way.

Seems like one of those movies which you either love or "hate" - I loved it, even if just for the comical scenes and the philosophical discussions, though I’d have to admit that I didn‘t get it in its entirety (which reflects the statement of one of the main actors in the black-and-white production flashback). Guess you have to watch it a couple of times to really understand the point it’s trying to make.

I spent the entire time, while I had my eyes open, trying to figure out what in the heck was going on. The few laughs that there were were about isolated cute things in the movie. But overall, nothing in the movie made sense. Very few laughs. I walked out of there having wasted my time and money. I would NOT recommend this!!

In a theatre with about 30 others who sat in complete and utter silence for the duration of the film. Not a single chuckle. I heard one loud snore for a second, which I don't think was me. My reaction was stunned incredulity. The first film that compelled me to ask for a refund. They said no, of course.

As a We Anderson fan, I can easily say that this is by far his worst move to date. He simply over Wes Andersoned it with a horrible script and poor story line. Plenty of big names in this ensemble cast that will regret having made this movie. I literally dozed off for a bit about halfway through. If you see it, you will be mad that you did.

Well, I’ve heard plenty of laughs around me, so some people must think it’s funny 😉 Yes, it’s an unconventional movie in the typical (?) Wes Anderson style, which isn’t everybody’s taste. I’m still wondering what the message of the movie was in the end, but quite a few memorable scenes and philosophical questions buzzing in your brain after leaving the cinema. Liked it!

This was not good

This is the worst Movie so far this year...... No reaction from anyone during that 1hr 44 minutes.. They should have paid me to watch that Movie...

User review rating: 2 June 27, 2023

I don't get it. I didn't laugh once, and I was needing a laugh! The alien's eyes made me smile. 2 stars because I love that era - reminds me of my childhood, and I love science geeks. II guess it was trying to be funny and entertaining, but just didn't get there for me. Bummer.

Don't waste your money and time on this

After watching this movie from start to finish I'm presented with 2 different possibilities: 1. The movie was a "campy" presentation of life as a collection of "moments". Each moment that could be for example: asking life's questions (both mind blowing and trivial, examples: are we alone in the universe? can I take a picture of you?), emotions- feelings, hopes and dreams, grief/loss, contradictions, acceptance/spectators, examples: mushroom clouds and gunfights in cars. We can learn, we can be spectators, lust, secrecy, openness and alienation, right or wrong. I can stop here; because by now you get the idea or... 2. "This movie went ZOOM !! right over my head, and I missed the whole point. Probably, 2. I'll say this with absolute certainty. Johansson just does it (without looking like she's even trying). There! I finally mentioned something I liked in this movie.

Hilarious! - it’s Wes Anderson, so expect a strange setting with strange people in strange situations. It doesn’t have the depth of the Grand Budapest Hotel, but filled with plenty of laughs and "Eh?" moments. Cinematography is great, the choice of colors unusual as always, and acting is excellent throughout the movie.

The funniest film in years!

Mr Spock would say, "Fascinating." This movie is jaw-dropping. At first glance there's no knowing what to make of it. My father would say, "I don't know what he said but he sure did say it." There's non-stop amusement. It's colorful, witty, stylistically interesting, has fitting music, it's funny as heck, and gives you pause because it's ultimately about the uncertainty of life. Stay for the road runner's dance during the credits 🤣
